On Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, the Hernando County Button Collectors Group held its first membership recruitment event. Sylvia Liszka Durell presented "The History of Buttons: Why We Collect the Little Masterpieces of Art" to a crowd of 27 people. After the presentation, the group had the opportunity to view hundreds of unique, antique and simply beautiful buttons for the collection of HCBCG member, Anne Buckingham. One-third of the audience completed membership forms and will be invited to attend the group's next event , which will be at a private opening of the May-Stringer Hernando History Museum in December. Anne Buckingham will talk about and display Moonglow buttons.

It is wonderful to have a supportive library in our county. Especially one that has a locked display card in its lobby. In preparation and promotion of our Friday, Nov. 20 new-member recruitment presentation, they gave us the key and allowed us to fill it up with all things BUTTONS! Great teamwork made for an eye-catching display...one that we hope will boost interest in button collecting. |
