If you love buttons and have an extensive collection of all types and sizes, you may be wondering, "what else can I do with them/" If you haven't had a chance, check out my Holey Buttons Pinterest sites. My Button Art folder has 470 ideas for creating art from your buttons. In addition, my Button Crafts folder has another 426 pins!
I have been working on combining two sewing notions I love into jewelry. The shapes and designs of buttons and zippers are so graphic, when put together the result can be super interesting. There are lots of colors to work with, too. It isn't hard to create the basic bracelet strap with a zipper. (1) Start by measuring the length of the zipper you'll need to go comfortably around your arm. (2) Separate the two zipper sides and lay them flat with the teeth facing outward. (3) Sewing machine stitch close to the edge on both plain sides of the zipper. These two straight stitches will hold the bracelet strap together. (4) Add a metal clasp or stretchy loop closure. (5) Sew on your buttons in any desired number. My rings are made to fit with the closure points centered under the button.
I am looking forward to getting my "Button Collectors Mug" in the mail. Zazzle.com sells them at http://www.zazzle.com/button_collectors_mug_right_or_left_hand_design-168700104029067424. I like the black and white graphics with the red heart on the white mug.
I have been working on combining buttons and zippers to create jewelry. I like this bracelet I made but find that the clasp is very hard to fasten without the help of someone else. Unclasping is not so difficult. So before I make the next one, I need to figure out a better closer. Even though this isn't 100% of what I want...I would have gotten to 0% if I hadn't tried at all.
It is Labor Day 2015 and I started the day working! But that's OK. It was a project of the heart. I created a image to share on social media that declares my love for buttons! I will send it to you too...just ask through my contact page or use my email above! Have a good Labor Day!
